Bespoke Bedroom Belongings

Bespoke Bedroom Belongings
  • Opening Intro -

The ability to design or create items to fit precisely into your bedroom for your specific needs or wants is an efficient luxury.

-------------------------------------

It allows you to maximise both space and creativity. Here are some ideas about specific bespoke bedroom belongings to consider.

Bed
The most prominent feature in any bedroom is the bed itself. It gives the room its name, displays its primary purchase and requires the most room. Rather than pushing the bed flush with two walls in a corner, some designers are setting it at an angle in a corner. Doing so provides a unique look, but it wastes the space between the corner and the headboard. Consider creating a bespoke bed with a headboard that fits into the corner. Because there are companies that create mattresses, you are free to construct any size or shape bedframe and headboard you see fit.

Bespoke belongings allow you to accommodate awkward architecture. For example, build a headboard that frames a window rather than blocking it or one that accents an interesting nook rather than covering it. Keep in mind, though, when requesting a bespoke bed that it will inevitably follow that you will need bespoke linens as well.

Armoire
In a bedroom with little closet space, consider purchasing an old armoire and refurbishing it to suit your needs. The bespoke piece could become a portable closet with drawers below, a television stand or a bespoke shoe rack. When the doors of such a fine piece of furniture are closed, the contents are irrelevant.

Storage trunk
Another storage solution is to design a bespoke trunk or chest. An ideal space to store linens or bulky winter clothes, the trunk can be built to fit flush at the end of the bed, tall enough to serve as a headboard (the top half could be an empty trunk and the bottom half drawers accessible from the side), or topped with a cushion and placed in front of a window as a dual purpose window seat.

Nightstand
People use nightstands for multiple purposes. Some use them to hold books they read or a journal they write in before falling asleep each night. Others store remote controls, hand creams or medication inside. Still others use the nightstand as a place to charge their mobile devices. A bespoke nightstand could be designed to perform each task and more. Have the reading lamp and phone charger built in. Create a writing surface that swings out from the nightstand for journaling or using a laptop computer. Put a lock on the door or drawer that stores medication to keep children out. Install a digital alarm clock or speakers for an MP3 player. The possibilities are endless. In fact, since your whole bedroom will be bespoke, why not make the headboard and nightstand one coordinating piece?

Bespoke for accessibility
For individuals confined to a wheelchair, bespoke furniture is more of a necessity than a luxury. A bed that is lower to the ground or a mattress that fits a hospital bed may be essential. Storage pieces may need to be lower to the ground. For example, a trunk that opens on top would be less accessible than one with a side that lowered. Consider the benefit of a dresser with a mirror in between the drawers rather than on top of the dresser.
