As with most things in life, there are pros and cons. And when it comes to your disposal, the same holds true. While you can use your disposal to get rid of a lot of leftovers, there are things you should never put down the drain:

Husks contain a lot of fiber, making them difficult to slice through. So make sure to just throw them in the trash.

Artichoke leaves are very tough and are liable to get caught in between the blades. If this happens, it can end up breaking the whole disposal.

Potato peels have a lot of starch, which is not a good combination for your garbage disposal. Simply throw them away instead.
