It may seem as though every time you turn around you notice a bug problem.

These bugs can be more than just disgusting.

They may be causing damage to your home.

This can cause problems for you and anyone that lives in your home. Here are solutions to prevent bugs from wreaking havoc in your house.

Eliminate Food Sources

All bugs and pests like and need to eat. Eliminating the source of food for them can prevent them from wanting to enter your home. Termites in particular like to eat wood. Remove dead wood and rotting leaves from around the exterior of your room as a preventative measure. You don’t want to provide them with a buffet that attracts them into your home.

Investigate Standing Water

Water is another big source that will bring bugs and pests to your yard and property. Leaky pipes or another water source may be tempting bugs into your vicinity. If you notice standing water, address it right away.

You don’t want bugs to decide that your home is a good place to take up residence. If you have a fountain or pond, keep it running so that it doesn’t become a breeding ground for mosquitos and other types of insects.

Safe Guard Your Home

Invest in pest control solutions. This may mean that you hire a pest company to come out and treat your home on a regular basis. You can also take things into your own hands and do a perimeter spray around your home every few months. If you decide to do it yourself, make sure to purchase a pesticide that is a broad spectrum for all types of insects.

Apply Mulch with Caution

Flower beds that have mulch that is right next to your home can provide a nesting ground for bugs. What you’ve essentially done is invite them into your home. Add a food and water source to the mix and they can be hard to keep under control. Consider mixing in a pest controlling agent if you decide to add mulch to your flower beds.

One of the best ways to keep termites and other pests away is to clean up the debris in your yard. Over time, your yard will accumulate debris, especially after every fall, winter, or any major storm that comes through.

Keeping your yard clean helps you inspect your property for pests that could do damage to your home or other aspects of your property. It also helps eliminate hiding places as well.

Seal Points of Entry

Even the smallest hole in your home can allow bugs access. Seal up those cracks as much as possible to prevent an infestation. Use caulking around your doors and windows. Take a look at your foundation to make sure that bugs aren’t entering your basement or crawlspace.

Bugs have an amazing knack of finding their way into your home. Walk around your home so that you can get a feel for any weak spots in your defenses. Take preventative measures so that you can protect your home to the best of your abilities.
