Few Ideas That Should Make Any Bathroom More Eclectic

Few Ideas That Should Make Any Bathroom More Eclectic
  • Opening Intro -

Eclectic style has seen a huge growth in popularity in recent few years, and it’s not that hard to see why.

Serving as a great equalizer that levels down different influences and decorating elements, this particular way of decorating your house came off as a blessing in a world where rigid rules and style boundaries are slowly fading.

But how the things are standing with today’s bathrooms? Is it really possible to introduce eclectic style in a room where you don’t have enough elements to play with and the space and pre-existing plumbing layout serve as great limiting factors? Sure. Let us see how.

Try Using Wallpapers

The art of eclectic is the art of unexpected. And is there anything more unexpected than seeing wallpapers in a bathroom? Of course, we are not talking about the dedicated bathroom wallpapers whose entire purpose is to blend in. We are talking about the striking, vivid wallpapers you would have to think twice before using even in your living room. You can use floral motives, arabesque, superheroes, retro elements… Anything that will draw attention away from bathroom fixtures and create a vibe of its own.

Use Interesting Shower Curtains

Serving the similar purpose as wallpapers, shower curtains are used to draw attention, set the tone, and hopefully unite several distinct styles with their color or pattern. It is worth mentioning that shower curtains are much more flexible and come at much lower price, so do your best to find a place for them. When successfully combined with wallpapers, though, they can do real wonders.

Play With Lighting

And when we say that, we are not talking only about the way your bathroom is lit, but also about the look and feel of the light fixtures. Exterior light can be diffused with creative wall of glass panels, your regular bulbs can be easily replaced with futuristic neon lights or, quite opposite, retro Edison-era counterparts (you can even find energy-efficient bulbs that look just like the old incandescent ones). If you have enough room you can even move in a few lamps with massive lampshades and lend your bathroom a touch of burlesque. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

Combine Different Styles

The more unlikely this combination is, the better. For example, you would be very hard pressed to find any similarities between the oriental and industrial style beyond the fact that they both exist. But when you use concrete backdrop, combine it with oriental tiles, add massive exposed black pipes and rugged bathroom features, and you will create something truly amazing. It should be mentioned that you should never combine more than two of such distinct styles together.

Travel through Time

The same thing we just said about different styles can be applied to different time periods. So, why wouldn’t you spice up your modern, streamlined bathroom with an archaic clawfoot, or regular freestanding bath with the addition of retro tub fillers that comes straight out of the floor? Or break the monotony of the old fashioned bathroom with sleek glass shower cabin? Again, unless you go too far, you can combine contemporary with art deco, arts and crafts with futuristic, and do virtually whatever you want.

Move in the Furniture

This move will require some space, but if you have plenty of it you can really unleash your inner Philippe Starck. For example, you can move in dark woodwork, massive walnut mirrors and create something reminiscent of the old luxurious Victorian hotels. Or you can go the other way – move in the sofa, rug, introduce a lot of light and create spa-like ambience.

Play With Colors and Details

Finally, if you are short on money, you can breathe in some eclectic vibe to your bathroom even with things like colors and small details. Breaking the black and white backdrop with some vibrant element (door, toilet, etc.) can be considered eclectic. Moving in a small bookshelf where you will keep the pictures of your pets in vintage frames and ages-old radio is odd, but it is eclectic. As long as you are restrained enough these small things can only work to your advantage.

As we can see, in spite of inherent limitations, trying to make your bathroom more eclectic can provide some very satisfying results and it is really not that hard to pull off. Also, the necessary interventions can be easily adjusted to everyone’s pocket and available space, so there’s no real reason why you shouldn’t try this one out.
