Check Around Door Or Window Frames
It isn’t uncommon for a door to be a little shorter than the frame that it is place in. Therefore, there could be slight gaps to the side or underneath the door where air can come in. Over time, window frames may get warped or damaged because of water, bugs or generally wear. If this happens to you, it may be a good idea to seal the gap with caulk or with a door guard to seal any open spaces.
Insufficient Insulation Can Cause Air To Circulate Through Your Home
Ideally, you will have insulation between the siding and the interior of a home. You will also want insulation in the basement, attic and garage.
If there is no insulation or there isn’t enough of it, air can get into the home through small cracks or other crevices. Insulation that is damaged or worn away after becoming wet may need to be replaced to ensure that drafts aren’t a problem in your home.
Pipes And Ducts Could Also Cause Drafts To Form
If there are holes or cracks either in a duct or pipe or between them, you could have issues with drafts in your home. The good news is that you can easily replace a duct or pipe that is giving you issues or simply seal the leak with tape or similar materials.
To find out if your pipes or ducts are causing drafts, you can actually blow into them or spray water into them. If you notice a draft or see water dripping from any portion of the sprayed surface, you know that there is a leak to deal with.
Even after checking and fixing any leaks throughout your home, you may not be able to find the specific problem area.
If you are having trouble finding and fixing leaks, or are just unsure, consider using the help of professionals like those found at Winters Heating Cooling.
How to Prevent Drafts:
You want to eliminate drafts in your home at all costs as they can exasperate the heat or cold that you may experience outside. If there are drafts, it could also indicate spots where water or pests are getting into the home. Therefore, you should work to eliminate those drafts as soon as possible whether you choose to do them yourself or hire someone to take care of them for you.
