8 Great Cleaning Tips For The Home
  • Opening Intro -

Spring and Summer are usually the seasons when most people decide to do their annual home improvement projects and cleaning.

Just in time, here are some great tips that you'll be able to use right away!

1. Wash Your Sponges

Even though we use them every day for washing and scrubbing, we pay very little attention to them otherwise. Keep in mind that sponges collect millions of strains of bacteria during their use, but that can easily be taken care of.

Put the sponges in the microwave for several minutes and all the microbes will be gone and your sponges will be disinfected and ready to use again.

2. Clean Kitchen Cabinets

When was the last time you took a close look at your kitchen cabinets and their handles? You would be surprised to see how much dust, oily buildup and filth have gathered on the surfaces.

Kitchen cabinets can easily be cleaned with a mixture of one part vegetable oil to two parts baking soda. Mix it well and apply with a toothbrush. Your kitchen cabinets will shine like new!

3. Wash Small Toys in the Washing Machine

Lego blocks, small action figures and toy balls that your children play with are covered with dirt. If we were to wash them by hand it would take all day.

But there’s a better solution. Place all the small toys in a fabric mesh bag and wash them with hot water in the washing machine.

4. Clean your Iron with Salt

The bottom of your iron is easily cleaned with this simple trick.

Pour a generous amount of salt on a table and place a pillowcase on top of the salt. Move the iron over the pillowcase until all the dirt has disappeared. Do not turn on the iron while doing this.

5. Remove Pet Hair with Rubber Gloves

As annoying as pet hair on furniture and clothes can be, removing it could not be more simple!

Put on a pair of rubber gloves and go over all the areas covered in pet hair. The hairs will all stick to the rubber gloves, which you can then just rinse off under cold water.

6. Get Rid of Hard Water Spots

Those ugly white traces of hard water on your bathroom fixtures can be removed with the help of vinegar.

Soak some paper towels in vinegar and then wrap them around the fixtures where the hard water spots are and leave for 20 minutes. If the paper towels dried, soak them in more vinegar. After 20 minutes remove the paper towels and scrub the remaining hard water spots with a toothbrush.

Repeat again with the paper towels, but this time leaving it for 1 hour. After that there won’t be a need for anymore scrubbing, and your fixtures will gleam!

7. Fix Scratches on Wood

If you thought the only way to get rid of scratches on old wooden furniture was to buy new furniture or coat it with a sealant, there is actually something else you can do that’s much easier.

Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 3/4 cup of olive oil. Dip a cotton cloth in this and coat the wooden surface until you have used up the entire mixture. You won’t believe with your eyes when you see the final result!

8. Finally a Non-Sticking Barbeque Grill

Warm weather has arrived and that also means everyone is dusting off their BBQ grills! The next time you prepare to BBQ, use this little trick so the meat never sticks to the grill.

All you need to do is cut an onion in half and rub the grill to make it non stick. It really works!
