Building a Home Recreation Room for Your Teenage Girl

Building a Home Recreation Room for Your Teenage Girl
  • Opening Intro -

Your teenage daughter needs a cool home recreation room where she can invite friends over and enjoy herself in private.

Before you create her recreation room, it would be a good idea to talk with her to get her input on what she would like in the room. Let her choose the wall paint colors, small accessories, and furniture. However, some boundaries should still be set; you don’t want her room to look too much like an adult’s room.

You can also incorporate some of your teenage daughter’s personality or future goals into the room’s design. For example, if your daughter intends to become a pediatrician, you can have some decorative items related to the medical field.

1. Olympics Themed Recreational Room

If your teenage daughter is mature for her age and plays sports at school, consider designing a recreational room with an Olympics theme.

Paint the walls a pastel blue or pastel yellow, then paint a mural of the Olympics symbol on the main wall in the room. Place a trampoline in the room if your daughter does gymnastics. You can also place in the room a balancing vault that is similar to those used by gymnasts in the Olympics.

For the girl who plays soccer and wants to play in the Olympics, put soccer themed posters on the walls and create a wide space in the room so that she and friends can practice soccer. Ideally, a large basement would work for this kind of recreational room.

2. Geeky Recreational Room

So your teenage daughter is not into sports but she loves all things geeky. You can create a recreational room that fosters intellectual development in her.

Paint the room’s walls in neutral tones. To help reduce clutter, install some storage shelves or bookcases on the walls for her to place books and magazines. Place a maple or dark cherry oak colored desk in the room and install some hardwood or laminated floors. As for wall paint colors, use colors such as teal green, burgundy, gold, medium red or powder blue to keep her room from appearing too dull.

If she’s into classical or jazz music, let her put up artwork of her favorite artists on the walls. Place a newspaper collage in a frame over her desk to add another geeky element to the room.

3. Beach Themed Recreational Room

For the teenage girl who hangs out at the beach often, a beach themed home recreational room would look nice.

Decorate the room with items that remind her of the beach such as seashells, beach balls, sand and other things. For example, you can take sand and seashells and place them in small mason glass jars along with some colorful flowers. Drape the room’s windows with white or aqua curtains and place a rustic style wooden table in the middle of the room for when your daughter plays board games with her friends.

In conclusion, with these ideas your teenage daughter’s recreational room doesn’t have to look boring or dull. It will be a room that she’ll enjoy for the rest of her teenage years.
