I think one of the best choices is a heated towel rail, though, because there’s nothing nicer than stepping out of the bath and wrapping a toasty warm towel around you. Mirrors are a must in any bathroom, but don’t just settle for a functional mirror on the door of a vanity cabinet – go for something that really makes a statement. You can have a lot of fun with this particular accessory, because there are just so many options open to you.
For a more modern space, look into the mirrors that feature LED lights behind the glass, as these combine practicality with innovative design. It’s really important to install good task lighting around your bathroom mirrors, so if you go for a plain looking glass be creative with your lighting.
One unusual, and very stylish, choice is to go for standard light fittings that hang low near the mirror. Put the bulbs in simple glass lightshades with sleek lines and they’ll look wonderful in a contemporary space while still illuminating the mirror effectively.
Showerhead
While you might think of the showerhead as being a purely functional item in the bathroom, I urge you to look at its potential as a designer item too. For a modern bathroom, one of the best choices is a square showerhead, as its angular lines will fit in well with this style of decor.
For something that will really stand out, go for a showerhead that features LED lights inside it, making the water you’re bathing in glow. You don’t have to stick to white light, either, as there are products available that allow you to inject a bit of colour. These can even be programmed to change colour with the temperature of the water (blue being cold, red being hot).
Make It All Match
One final point to bear in mind when you’re designing your perfect contemporary bathroom is to make sure all the accessories you choose match, to ensure there is cohesion in the space.
This doesn’t necessarily mean they should all be from the same manufacturer, but they need to be made from the same material (chrome, for instance) and should all follow a similar design trend. So, if you go for a towel rail with sharp, angular lines, make sure your toilet roll holder, mirror and other items like soap dispensers or toothbrush holders all have a similar shape, as this will help bring the room together.
