Signs That You Need To Repave Your Patio

Signs That You Need To Repave Your Patio
  • Opening Intro -

A backyard patio is a great place to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning or unwind and watch the sunset in the evening.

-------------------------------------

However, as time passes, you may notice some general signs you need to repave your patio. Look for these common symptoms of general wear and tear to decide if a patio renovation is on the horizon.

Cracks in the Foundation

Cracks are typically among the first signs of damage to your patio’s foundation. Small cracks here and there may not be a big deal initially, and you may be able to patch them up without much effort.

However, larger cracks may spread, allowing weeds and grass to grow through and cause more significant problems down the road. When these larger fissures widen and become tripping hazards, it may be time to repave your patio.

Regular Puddles

Another sign that you need to repave your patio may be evident by stagnant water, especially if you live in an area that receives heavy rainfall. Puddles may cause erosion to your patio’s foundation and showcase inadequate drainage.

When replacing your paving to help increase drainage, you may elect for a permeable base over a solid pavement. Gravel bases provide an opportunity for decorative flair and help reduce the odds of stagnant water accumulating in your outdoor space.

Consistent Spalling

Spalling happens to many patios, and how regularly it occurs may depend on your patio’s materials. Spalling occurs when parts of the patio’s surface chip away or deteriorate regularly.

This wear and tear may be more common with clay, tile, or concrete that gets too much water in the mixture. Whatever the cause, spalling is a good sign that it may be time to repave your patio and use the opportunity to add something new to your home.
