Not only can a home gym increase your property’s value, but it also creates a physical space to work out from the comfort of your home.
Many consider a home gym as being too time-consuming and expensive to create, but the truth is that with a few simple additions and pieces of equipment, you will have a great space for working out.
It does not have to be as grand as a school gym, instead a small modern space with workout equipment. In this blog, we will cover all of the essentials to consider. Take a look at the following suggestions:
Gym Floor Mats
First things first, you need to set the foundations. Gym flooring as you may be aware is designed to cushion the impact of heavyweights, creating a safer environment for all working out in it.
The flooring itself is very simple and in most cases can be used as an overlay to your existing flooring, preferably something flat like wooden. An interlocking gym mat flooring is the best temporary solution. Be sure to measure the length and width of the floor, and you will be able to find squares that fit perfectly into the space you have.
In terms of pricing, there are top spec options as well as lower spec. Even some supermarkets supply this temporary flooring from now and then, so do some internet surfing and explore your options.
Yoga Mats
Now onto some of the equipment essentials. Yoga mats are the perfect addition to any home gym, especially if you love a morning stretch or to chill out after a long rigorous session.
A simple foam exercise mat works perfectly fine within your home gym. Just be sure to find a non-slip yoga mat to avoid any home injuries in your favourite gym sets.
Exercise Bikes
Cycling is one of the best ways to engage in cardiovascular exercise. The best thing about the exercise bike is its tight and compact design. You can fit an exercise bike into the smallest crevices of a room and still feel there’s enough space to engage in a great workout.
You can go as expensive or affordable as you like with an exercise bike. Bikes such as the Peaton are more advanced ( and expensive), whereas the standard exercise bike will have a peacekeeper and allow you to have a killer cycle session.
Dumbbell & Rack
A dumbbell station is just the thing you need to complete a home gym. Home gyms are great for both cardio and strength training, and dumbbells provide an endless opportunity for weighted workouts. From bicep curls to dumbbell RDLS, you won’t be lost for workout inspiration with a dumbbell rack in your home.
You can choose what weight you go up to, but 2kg dumbbells up to 30 may be all you need. Of course, if you are a seasoned weightlifter you may wish to skip the lighter weights and make your collection even heavier.
Treadmills
Having at least two cardio-focused machines is always a good option. Sometimes you may not want to go running out due to weather conditions, so a treadmill is just the thing you need. There are so many types of treadmills to consider that it can get confusing to choose the right one.
A folding treadmill might be ideal if you are looking for a lower price point, in addition to saving space when the treadmill isn’t needed. Or, you can go more premium, with an extra long and wide track to support all running types.
Squat Rack
Last but not least, you may benefit from a squat rack in your home gym if strength and resistance training is a core part of your regime. Squat racks often require the most space, however, you can opt for integrated designs that include storage for all of your weighted plates.
As a bonus tip, it is always handy to place a floor-to-ceiling mirror in front of your home squat rack to check your form and reduce the risk of any injury.

Final Considerations
Ventilation – Be mindful of where you decide to host your home gym. Ventilation needs to be in place, such as a few windows, or if you have the budget, aircon. Without good airflow, you will find it insufferable to workout in your new state-of-the-art gym.
Wall panelling – Not much emphasis needs to be placed on the walls for a fully fitted gym but for that extra touch of luxury you might consider panelling. This will give a premium effect to the space and make it seem more commercial, as opposed to a basic room with some equipment,
Led lighting – Led lighting that lines the ceiling can give the luxury gym effect. Consider adding this on top of your wall panelling, or invest in a home LED sign that lights up the room with its presence. Something that spells out a motivational quote is guaranteed to create that high-end gym effect.
