Your home office is an office, not your home. It should therefore be designed and treated as such.

Many people find it difficult to maintain their home office, even if they have the space. There are many reasons for this. But in case you cannot have that perfect home office, you simply cannot work from your home in the right way. There are some tips here that will help you to have that perfect home office.

It is your office, and not your home.

You need to realize that it is your office within your home, and not your home within your office. Do not use it as a guest room or as a party room as per the need. You do not do that with your office, do you? It is not an extra room of your house, but your office in your home space.

Keep all the office supplies in this space. This means that your pens must be here and not on the study table of your daughter. Do not go running into your home when you need anything. Rather, go ahead and buy it from the store outside.

Do not use this place to entertain guests or to make phone calls. Have your home office at a place where it is not in the way of your family members.

Adhere to your office timings.

Your home office is like any other office. It has its timings, coffee breaks and so on. You need to adhere to them. Reach your home office on time. Leave it only when the timings are over and not when you wish to.

Only office furniture in your home office.

Your home office cannot have a home theater system or the double bed. It is so easy to divert your mind and get into a different mood with these things around. Only keep office chairs, desks and sofa for the office visitors there. Keep your fax machine, telephone, computer and printer there.

Make it self sufficient so that you do not have to run to your home each time. Equip it with a fridge and electric kettle too. Even if it is a home office, keep it well decorated and comfortable just like any other office. Have fresh flowers and decorate it well. Put paintings on the walls and have good quality furniture.

You have to spend long hours there and that is possible only when your home office looks good and is comfortable too. Do not mix it up with your home or you would not be able to do justice to either your home or your office.
