Effective and Efficient Home Lighting
  • Opening Intro -

You should always opt for natural lighting when lighting up your home.

If this is not possible, you should:

    • use focused lighting fixtures
    • avoid unnecessary lighting fixtures
    • utilize energy efficient lighting and decorative lighting
    • and finally, do not compromise on the quality of the wiring job.

The market is flooded with home lighting solutions. Once you are buying, you would simply be overwhelmed with the choices that are available. But ponder over a few things before you make that final purchase.

Opt for natural light

It does not matter how many lights you have inside your home. Nothing can match the natural light system. Place your study table right next to the window. Open the curtains first thing in the morning.

If possible, have light curtains so that you have sunshine filtering in through the day. Make as much use of natural light as you can. This will save you energy as well as be good for your eyes.

Keep some tables and chairs on the porch. Entertain your guests there in the evenings.

Use focused lighting

Make use of study lamps and floor lamps. These will light up the area that you want. Have focused lighting on your paintings and other artefacts.

In addition to looking good, these will give a unique ambience to your house. If you have to read, use a study lamp rather than lighting up the whole room.

Avoid unnecessary lighting

You may be having disco lights in the living room for that party. But that does not mean that you have to use these all the time. Keep these reserved for the parties only.

Have one switch for each light. This way you will not have two lights on when you need just one, just because both the lights operate through one switch only.

Use energy efficient lighting

There are a number of options available in the market in the form of LED lights, and so on. Check with your electrician about the most cost efficient solutions and opt for these.

Areas that are lit up for a longer time such as your kitchen will need such lights. There are a number of options available in varying styles in order to suit your home décor.

Use decorative lighting

Take out your Christmas lights. Once the festive season is over, do not store these away. Rather, use them to line your bed or even that painting in your living room. In addition to beautifying your place, these lights are put to good use too.

Be safe

It does not matter what kind of lighting you use; make sure that the fixtures and wiring are standardized.
Do not make any compromises here. There should be no loose connections and no sparking anywhere. In case of any problem, get an electrician and get the problem rectified as soon as possible. You cannot take any chances here.

As you can see, lighting is an important aspect of any home. Keeping a few tips in mind will help you to save on energy costs as well as make your house look bright and welcoming.
