Time to Give Your Patio a Proper Facelift

Time to Give Your Patio a Proper Facelift
  • Opening Intro -

After a long tiresome day at work, all you need is peace and silence.

The best way to recharge your batteries is spending time in nature, and you can do it immediately - why go on a picnic, or to a park, when a peace of nature is right before your nose?

Since the cold depressive winter is soon about to give its way to the sunny colorful spring, it is high time you started planning the new look of your patio. Don’t worry, this does not have to cost you a fortune. A little bit of energy, good will and creativity will be enough, and besides, we are here to inspire you.

Most people focus on the house interior and neglect the exterior, but the truth is, the exterior of a house is as important as its interior, and, like it or not, people usually judge the book by its covers. Your patio is often the first to greet your guests, and surely, you want them to feel welcome.

The Sitting Area

The most important part of the patio is probably its seating area, so we will begin with it. The seating does not have to be extravagant, claim the people who own and operate the furniture company Wintons Teak, it can be anything functional and interesting that you can sit on, such as benches, stools, barrels, crates, rocking chairs, etc. You probably already own some of those, and in order to make the old, worn-out items look new and lively you can sandpaper them and maybe use a different paint. The same goes for a table. A new tablecloth will do the job. Personally, my favorite item is definitely the porch swing; you sit, close your eyes and relax, and besides, the kids love it.

Green it up with Plants

Plants are indispensable part of every backyard, patio, deck, etc. They bring freshness and instantly make your patio more welcoming. Planters are a great way to add plants to your patio, and as with the old furniture, you can paint the planters you already own to revive them, or you can use pitchers or metal buckets, for example, to serve as planters. As for selecting plants, you can fairly inexpensively pick up annuals to add a little color, or perennials to blend with the annuals and to add depth to the look of the planter.

Choose Proper Lighting

The right kind of lighting can transform your patio into an extension of your living room in the evening too, so you can enjoy it night and day. String lights can be interesting, and they are not expensive. Paper are fun, and provide great ambiance while also being pretty cheap. Or you can just add candles and in that way create a more intimate atmosphere.

Don’t Forget the Details

When all of the necessary elements are in place, it is time to add some personality. As I have already said, the patio is usually the first place a guest is greeted with, and it should reflect the hospitality and the design taste of the homeowner. In order to make your sitting area even more inviting, throw several pillows to add color, texture, warmth and comfort, as well. You can also add colorful curtains, doormats, door wreaths, etc. And don’t forget about the floor of the patio, it has to be neat and clean above all. However, rugs can make a big difference; they add color and texture.

As you can see, almost everything is permitted, but whatever you do, try not to overload your patio with too much details, colors, patterns, plants etc. It can easily go from fabulously personalized to completely tacky, and you surely don’t want that.
