Getting in shape
Notes:
- You need to take the time to refocus your efforts on yourself and this means getting physically active again. However, perhaps access to a local gym is difficult for you, or there is no local gym to access.
- Or you’re trying to save money. Either way, you’re going to want to learn how you can keep fit in your own home.
- Here are a few ways to do just that:
-
Invest in a home gym system:
One of the best investments you can make for yourself to maintain a healthy level of physical fitness is some sort of home gym system.
- There are many different types of home gyms to choose from, whether you’re looking to do strength training with something like a Bowflex machine, or something more affordable and space-saving, such as a simple set of weights.
- Either way, you can build your own home gym, without the need for fancy weight machines, it’s the exercise that’s important.
-
Types of Home Gyms:
If you are looking for something that comes complete with multiple exercise and strength-building options, then consider a complete home gym system that you can find a many commercial fitness centers.
The only requirement is that you have enough space or room where this machine may be placed and operated:

Where to Station Your Home Gym:
Home gyms take up a lot of space – not to mention the addition of other exercise options for the entire family. So maybe it’s time to dedicate a room as your fitness area. A place where you and your family can workout and leave as will by closing the door.

Buy a treadmill :
When people think of working out in the gym, they tend to think only of strength training exercises. This includes weight lifting of various types at various degrees of difficulty.
- But, people often forget that running or other cardio exercises in general also count as a workout, and can also have incredible health benefits.
- Perhaps you don’t feel like you need the weight-lifting machine, as you get enough of that at work, but you feel like you don’t get out for your weekly run enough.
- One solution to this problem is to buy a treadmill. If you have the space, explore your options. Fair warning, it may end up as a glorified clothes hanger.
-
What Does Cardio Mean:
Cardio is defined as any type of exercise that gets your heart rate up and keeps it up for a prolonged period of time. Your respiratory system will begin to breathe faster and more deeply.

Follow Workout CDs:
Plenty of physical trainers have been putting together CDs of their workouts for time immemorial. Billy Banks is a popular one. So, too is Shaun T’s “Insanity” workouts.
- These exercise CDs/DVDs mix cardio and strength training to create the ultimate test of your endurance. The great thing about these is that they are one-time purchases and can be applied time and again for as long as you want while still having physical benefits.

So how do you setup your private home gym? Yes, you need the exercise machines and workout area. But the challenge is finding time and the motivation to complete your exercise program each day.
So why not add wall viewing monitor in your fitness room. You can get your morning news – weather – or perhaps a last minute take on a movie as you workout. You can also watch your workout CD’s on the big screen.
This type of entertainment makes the workout go faster, more motivational, and entertaining.

Join Virtual Workout Classes:
Perhaps your local gym or local fitness guru/personal trainer is offering a virtual fitness course that you’ve always wanted to try. This is your opportunity to do so.
- Simply make sure you have a place to put your laptop and a large open area to follow along with the workouts, however intense they may or may not be, and the world is your oyster.
- You can even learn things like sports massage therapy, how to kickbox or learn virtual MMA fighting.
-
Exercising Can Be Cheap:
Often we feel we need some fancy equipment and/or gym membership to exercise regularly. If either of these two options work for you, that is great.
But regardless of what you do, you need discipline – in other words, you need force yourself to exercise regularly as scheduled.
Floor exercises without expensive equipment can give you the much needed workout for healthy living. What you need is a ventilated room to exercise and a floor mat to lay upon

Team-Up With a Friend:
It would be nice to develop an exercise routine with a friend.
You begin the day by waking early for a morning jog or walk. And then alternate between homes to return and motivate each of you in intense floor exercises.

Install a Swimming Pool:
While swimming is often seen as a fun activity, the amount of exercise and caloric burn that occurs while swimming is quite astonishing.
- Even at low levels of intensity, swimming can burn over 200 calories in half an hour. You can even install your own swimming pool in your backyard. Though you’ll need to make some decisions first.
- Do you want (or have the space for) an in-ground pool or an above-ground pool? Do you want mineral or saltwater? (Both have their benefits).
- Are you going to install a plunge pool for some casual swimming exercise, or are you going to go big (and stay home) and install a large lap pool, for the ultimate water-based exercise experience? Whatever you choose, swimming is one of the best exercises you can do for your body.

Make The Commitment:
Exercise of any sort is all about consistency and commitment to oneself. If you can find a way to commit to yourself that you’re going to exercise often and maintain that over the long term, you’ll be fitter than you could ever have imagined. The hardest step in any journey is usually the first one.
- Luckily, if you’re not able to access a gym, you can build one at home with very little equipment that’s not necessarily expensive. And even if it is a little pricey, consider it an investment in yourself and the prolonging of your life.
