- It was along this trail when Ichabod Crane return home one late evening after a disappointing night of attempted courtship. It was along this trail when he noticed that he was being followed by a headless horseman.
- The tale is from the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” – a short story written by Washington Irving and published in 1820. The headless horseman was a ghoul from the underneath that rode the countryside during the night with his head on his saddle – or was it a prank – Irving never says:

Ichabod Crane takes flight
Notes:
- Upon seeing the headless horseman on his tail, Ichabod spurs his horse on to outrun the his stalker. He races towards the town bridge for safety – local legends claim the Headless Horseman does not cross:

That is when the horseman throws something that knocks Icabod off his horse. The tale ends with no mention of the whereabouts of Icabod Crane. Some say he left town – other say he was taken away by the horseman – we will never know.
