Incorporate color
Notes:
- If you have a favorite color because it soothes you or reminds you of a wonderful memory, put it to work with large custom wall art prints. Submit a favorite image to a custom framer and get it expanded to take center stage in your living space.
- Once you have your favorite image on the wall, your color scheme management will be easier. Bold blues in the featured art can be carried through your home with simple touches, such as table linens or placemats to match.
- If your living room furniture is neutral but there’s a wonderful green in your wall art, look for a throw or for cushions to match the art.

Customize the rooms
Notes:
- Do you have two bedrooms but need only one? Don’t get hung up on using that second bedroom for sleeping. Turn it into an office, a playroom for your kids, or a custom dressing area.
- If you and your spouse are on different schedules, dressing in another area can not only give you the space you need for your clothing, but it can allow your partner to rest in darkness while you can have the light you need.

Focus on memories
Notes:
- Make your entryway a space to remember those you love. Hang framed photos of friends and family that you don’t get to see as often as you’d like so you can feel their embrace as you enter your home.
- Take some of your vacation photos or favorite vacation finds and add them to shelving around your home. If you have a divider bookcase in your space, make sure to add that wonderful piece of pottery you bought in Arizona, or drape the scarf you bought in New York around the crystal bowl you got in Prague.

Create a nest
Notes:
- Outside of your bedroom, create a spot where you can snuggle up, enjoy a movie or read a great book. Make sure you have a spot to set down a beverage and a snack plate. Include:
- a lamp you can direct
- a charger for your e-reader
- colorful fluffy throw to keep you warm
- any necessary pillows or cushions
- your favorite scented candle
- Do your best to put this space to work on a daily basis. Life can be extremely stressful right now, and it can be easy to lose track of what’s coming at us next. Arrange a quitting time each day so you can crawl into your nest and snuggle down, shed the stress of the day, and prepare to rest.

Don’t forget plants
Notes:
- Put your windows to work with houseplants. If you’ve never raised houseplants before, ask around for cuttings from the green thumbs around you. Figure out what you can’t kill and propagate them. You can start plants easily in old jam jars, and once the roots have developed, transfer them to pots.
- You might also consider picking up an herb garden kit. Fresh herbs in the kitchen can make cooking much more interesting, and once you get the hang of it you can also start fresh greens for your own consumption.
- If you’re not ready for the commitment of a plant, look for fresh flowers at your local grocer. Even the flowers that are on the discount rack on a Friday night can brighten your home until Monday morning.
- Place your fresh flowers in a vase, jar, or glass, then set the glass down on a clear piece of plastic or a disposable tablecloth for the weekend. When the flowers are done and starting to wither, you can gather up flowers, vase, and disposable tablecloth for easier cleanup.

FINAL REMARKS
The year 2020 has many of us spending a lot of time in our homes. While we may not be financially confident in making big decisions about our space, the addition of these small touches can help us feel more comfortable in the space and sure of our choices.
