Additionally, regardless of the room you are remodeling, the dust, dirt and grime can take a toll after a while, so you may want to budget for a hotel stay. This is especially true if the job requires turning off water or electricity.

Many homeowners get an unpleasant phone call from their contractors telling them that they have located a problem, and the home must be brought up to code before work can continue. While the contractor is just protecting his right to practice in the city and you want your home to be safe, these unexpected surprises can add to the cost of a remodeling project.
