How to Enjoy Your Outdoor Living Space
  • Opening Intro -

The summer season is now upon us and most people are spending more and more time outdoors.

Some of us are even fortunate to have some outdoor living space. This space can used for a variety of purposes and can be enjoyed even well past the summer months.

Here are a few ways to maximize this area and turn it into the space everyone wants to go to.

Extend your home outdoors – your outdoor living space should just feel as if it were an extension of your home. Be sure to furnish it as if it were another room of your house. There is a wide range of outdoor furniture lines and styles to choose from. Tables, side tables, ottomans, love seats and oversized chairs would all be perfect additions for any outdoor living space. You could even have an indoor/outdoor rug placed in the middle of the sitting area to pull the entire look together.

Don’t forget the d?cor – Just like in your home, the small details truly make a room feel like a room. Have a vase filled with flowers or herbs from you backyard be a center piece on your outdoor table. LED candles would add a soft glow in the evening. Small wicker baskets of reading materials would turn that corner chair area into a reading nook.

Plants and trees – Make your outdoor living area feel like an oasis by placing potted palms and other plants and shrubs in large pots throughout your area. Plants, shrubs and trees can section off specific outdoor areas. If you are looking to divide the area between the grill and outdoor patio area, this would be a way to do exactly that.

Create a view from the sitting area – If you are fortunate enough to a large backyard, try and draw the eye outward from your outdoor sitting area. Is there a beautiful garden you would like to have a spotlight on? Draw birds, hummingbirds, and butterflies in, by offering them what they enjoy. Designate a space for a bird bath, or for nectar or plant a butterfly bush. Any of these ideas would create a beautiful area to view from the patio

Lighting – Continue to enjoy your evening outdoors by placing lighting throughout your area. Place various sized candles on metal trays to create a glowing centerpiece. Try floating a few candles in a bowl of water and place them around on the side tables. There is a large assortment of electrical lighting that is ideal for the outdoors. Gorgeous party lights come in a wide range of styles, patterns and colors. Paper lanterns, bamboo lanterns, and even tropical Bermuda shorts lanterns are available to lighten up and liven up your outdoor living space well after the sun goes down.

Fire Pit – many outdoor are including a special area specifically designed for a fire pit. This is sure to be the gathering area as your gathering goes well into the night. Fire pits create a special outdoor ambiance that you just can’t get from electrical outdoor lightning. Not only that, but it can be functional as well. Try making smoores or roasting a late night hot dog as you and your guests enjoy time around the fire pit.
