Best disinfectants
Notes:
- Typically, a good cleaning disinfectant will list which bacteria, fungi, and viruses it is intended to kill. Disinfecting, when done correctly, will kill microscopic organisms so that they can no longer cause harm.
-
What you need to know
It is highly recommended that you wear suitable rubber gloves while cleaning because a lot of cleaning products can cause irritation of the skin. A rule of thumb to remember is that cleaning with soap and water will ‘reduce’ the number of germs that are living on surfaces.
- While cleaning with disinfectant will ‘kill’ the germs on the surfaces. It would be also best if you got into the habit of cleaning touched surfaces and those that frequently contact bodily fluids to avoid dirt build-up and the risk of germs being allowed to multiply.
- If your windows are dirty, they aren’t going to affect your health, but a work surface touched after a sneeze could.

What to use for cleaning
Notes:
-
Microfiber Cloths
It will help if you use different microfiber cloths for each surface. Cleaning product manufacturers suggest leaving the surface visibly wet for up to four minutes while the cleaner dries.
Do not be tempted to clean the surface in your home with things like baby wipes or vinegar as a more “natural” alternative, because they just aren’t going to be as effective as bleach or alcohol or disinfectants and may even leave germs behind on the surfaces even after you have cleaned them thoroughly.
-
Bleach
A diluted household bleach solution can be used for cleaning purposes, where appropriate.
‘Use bleach containing 5.25–8.25% sodium hypochlorite’. Do not use a bleach product if the percentage is not in this range or is not stated.- Make sure there is proper ventilation when using bleach during and after use.
- Always check the date to make certain the product is not out of date.
- Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleaner because it could cause harmful fumes that can be dangerous to breathe in.
- Note that cleaning products containing chlorine bleach are not safe to use in food preparation areas without having the added step of rinsing after disinfecting.

Pay particular attention to –
Notes:
-
Kitchens
A kitchen is a great place for germs to live and multiply. It’s full of surfaces, cabinets, handles, fixtures, and fittings typically all with a handle or control panel that gets touched each time it’s turned on or opened.
So if any surface is touched after raw food is prepared or hands are washed, bacteria such as salmonella, listeria, and E. coli can be spread. Therefore, to prevent contamination, it is important to clean the surfaces in your kitchen several times a day and always after preparing food.
-
Floors
Naturally, hardwood floors are going to be less germ-ridden than carpeted floors. But that said they can still get pretty grubby and harbor some nasty germs that you may have inadvertently walked into your home from outside, or that have fallen from your pet, even from the toilet, or food spillage.
Therefore, it is advisable to deep clean your floors at least once a month. This can be done using a steam mop, or better still by a professional cleaning company. Who knows exactly how to clean your house to ensure that it is cleaned to an incredibly high standard. Rugs can be scrubbed by hands using a mild soap or rug shampoo to ensure they are kept clean.
