  • Opening Intro -

If you want to increase the value of your home this summer while increasing your comfort level during the warm summer months, then consider these five home improvement projects.

They will make your home more comfortable while you live there plus increase the selling price when you are ready to sell.

-------------------------------------

Remodel Your Kitchen

If the appliances in your kitchen are older than five years old, then consider replacing them with more efficient ones. The great news is that you will almost immediately be saving money on your energy bills. In fact, installing energy-efficient appliances like refrigerators with the freezer on the top or bottom may save you up to 15 percent on each month’s bill. While some people choose to just swap out appliances, doing a complete kitchen remodel can make it a place your family wants to hang out while they are not in school.

Install a Programmable Thermostat

Like installing energy-efficient appliances, putting in a programmable thermostat can save up to 15 percent on your utility bill. These thermostats make it easy to keep your home at a constant temperature or you can program it so that it will allow the temperature to rise a few degrees while you are away at work or sleeping at night. The great news is that they work equally well during the hot summer months and when the temperatures drop in the winter.

Add Insulation

While you may feel like you are constantly yelling for the kids to shut the door to try to keep your home comfortable during the summer months, a lot of your cooling may be escaping through your attic. Therefore, summer is the perfect time to install new insulation. You may want to consider putting insulation in your crawl space, in the basement walls and in the attic.

Replace Siding

Take advantage of the warm summer months to have new siding put on your home. According to the National Association of Realtors, you can recoup between 77 and 88 percent of your investment in the new siding when you sell your home. In addition, according to Leon Construction, putting new siding on your home can drastically increase its energy efficiency allowing you to take your family on a great vacation through savings on your utility bill. Of course, adding new siding makes your home look better, so you may never want to leave.

Install Ceiling Fans

Installing ceiling fans in your home is a great way to increase your family’s comfort level. The gentle breeze circulated by these fans often means that you can run your air conditioning at a higher temperature saving you money. When lights are present on ceiling fans, then they can provide extra light so that dark corners are brighter.

Making these five changes to your home can increase your comfort level this summer. Get started on them today before the heat arrives.
