Decking out Your Dream House: 4 Home Additions for Your Next Remodel
  • Opening Intro -

If you've just purchased a new home you were probably planning a list of renovation projects the first time you looked at it.

Available funds or limited DIY skills could force you to set priorities and scale back your plans.

But there’s no reason you can’t focus on a few key projects that get you a lot closer to your dream home. Here are four remodels that can transform a home.

Extra Bathroom

An extra bath can add value to a home while being a welcome addition to any family. All you really need is about 4×8 feet of space. You’ll probably want it close to other plumbing so you can more easily run water lines and connect to drainage. You’ll also have to provide ventilation to the outdoors if it’s not on an outside wall with windows. It could serve as a guest bathroom, a private bath for the kids, or even a luxurious home spa.

Add a Sunroom

This might also be called a solarium, but is a building add-on consisting of glassed-in walls built into a metal frame. Some of these are pre-priced according to size and features, but are generally much cheaper than adding a traditional room. Double-glazed glass and curtains or blinds can help reduce the heat in the summer while it serves as a family room, entertaining space, or even a greenhouse to showcase your plants or garden.

Front Entry

If your home doesn’t have a porch, you should really consider getting one to enjoy the fresh air in the shade. Many people close in their porches with screens to keep out insects, or glass to double as a sunroom. By enclosing the porch with four solid walls and installing a new front door, it becomes an entry or sitting room where you can greet guests. Adding a little artistic décor, furnishings, and nice lighting fixtures and it becomes an elegant foyer your visitors will be impressed with.

New Staircase

If you have a multi-story property, a staircase can become the focal point of the house. Staircase designs can be open or closed, spiral, angled, or straight, and decorative as well as functional. There are many artistic balusters and posts in both fine woods and metals. With ample space and a little planning, your staircase can make a dramatic statement about your entire home.

There are far more stair options than you might think, to the point where some contractors, like Tarosa Stairs Pty Ltd, specialize specifically in stairs. Check them out!

Whatever you home vision is, just remember that you’ll have to observe technicalities like building codes and tax and insurance adjustments. But it’s very possible to start with the most neglected property and transform it into something special.
