Noisy Neighbors? 3 Strategies For Peace

Noisy Neighbors? 3 Strategies For Peace
  • Opening Intro -

If you live near people, you're bound to have at least one neighbor who may cause some noisy problems.

-------------------------------------

As humans, whatever this noise may be, it can get annoying, no matter how soothing it may sound. To effectively deal with a situation like this, here are three strategies you may want to execute to be at peace again.

1. Talk to Your Neighbor

Even if you tried a few tricks and it didn’t work, don’t go to the police department just yet without talking to your neighbor first. Most of the time, a neighbor may not even know he or she is causing enough noise to annoy those around them. While some may put up a fuss, 99 percent of the time, this problem can be resolved with some good old-fashioned communication.

When you approach your neighbor, don’t be confrontational; instead, politely explain what’s bugging you and see if you can come up with a resolution. If you’re the type who doesn’t like dealing with strangers, consider writing a polite note and slipping it in their door.

2. Consider a Fence

Take a look at your backyard. If you don’t have a fence installed, you may want to consider installing one for a few reasons. For starters, most neighbor sound complaints come from barking dogs, and these dogs will bark at things they can see. By putting up a barrier, this can often block their view from a distance, causing them to bark less.

Make sure you get a quality fence, like the products at Combined Metal Industries, to ensure you have a fence that is sturdy and will last a longer time.

3. Report It

If all else fails, consider reporting the neighbor to your HOA or the local police department if the situation is extreme. If you do want to contact the police, it’s a good idea to have detailed information about the problem. While they may be able to do a bit more or point you in the right direction, this should be the last step you take. If your HOA has certain quiet times put in place, they may threaten the guilty neighbor with a fine; however, this isn’t always the case. If you live in an HOA, read your by-laws to see what it says.

Dealing with a noisy neighbor can be a struggle at times, but if you approach the situation in a polite way, the solution can be resolved most of the time. Consider these three strategies to hopefully find your peace again.
