Garage Organization Tips That Really Work

Garage Organization Tips That Really Work
  • Opening Intro -

Your garage can quickly become a place where you store everything that you can't fit inside the rest of your house.

This could lead to a very disorganized and cluttered space that isn't attractive at all.

With the right garage organization tricks up your sleeve, however, you can keep your garage open, clean, and inviting, with plenty of space for your vehicle(s).

Check out the tips below to get started, and don’t forget to also keep your garage updated with doors from so it can look great both inside and out.

Take Advantage of Space on the Walls and Ceiling

If you can clear off a lot of floor area in your garage, you’ll be able to more comfortably fit your car in there, and one of the easiest ways to do this is by utilizing all of the space that you have along your walls and on the ceiling.

Start by getting rid of anything that you don’t really need. You can give it away, sell it during a yard sale, find another place to store it, or simply throw it out in the trash. Then make sure that you clean the walls, repainting them if necessary to make them look like new.

Finally, add shelving, hooks, nails, and a pegboard to the walls so you can hang a good portion of the things that you have in your garage, such as your broom, shovels, and gardening tools. Using an overhead rack on the ceiling, you can store other large items, such as your ladders, kayaks, and lumber.

Divide the Garage Up for Different Tasks

Dividing your garage into zones could also be helpful in not only organizing the space, but also creating more of an open area. For example, you might choose to create a zone for all of your gardening supplies, another zone for workout equipment and bikes, and another for tools that you need to use for fixing and maintaining your house. And, of course, you can also designate enough space for your vehicle so that it’s easy to pull into and out of the garage without having to worry about hitting anything.

Create Storage Space Elsewhere

You may find that you need to keep a lot of what’s in your garage but you don’t have adequate amounts of space to keep those objects while maintaining an open, clean, and neatly organized room. If this is the case, consider moving some of your things to another storage area in your house or in your yard. For example, if you install a shed in your backyard, you can use that to store your gardening tools and bicycles.

Label Everything

A great way to organize small objects is by setting up bins along one wall and labeling them appropriately, making it quick and simple to find exactly what you’re looking for whenever you need it. Taking the time to actually label every bin or drawer in your garage will ensure that everything also gets put back in the right place, so you reduce the odds of losing things because they’re stored away incorrectly. So even though this task may be quite tedious and time-consuming, it will definitely be worthwhile.

Install Cabinets and Closets

You can find a variety of cabinets and closets that are designed specifically for use in garages to keep your things organized. Again, make certain that you’ll have enough room for your vehicle, and then install these storage units to house anything and everything that you need to keep in your garage in a really organized way.

One of the Greatest Garage Storage Ideas — by Home Repair Tutor:

Easily Store Sports Balls

If you have a lot of sporting equipment, you’ll need to find a space in your garage where you can keep it all organized and easy to access, but balls can be particularly challenging. A great trick is to take a square piece of wood and nail it to the wall however high you need it to be, and then place another a few feet beneath it above the ground. Hook a few bungee cords to these, creating a wall of cords into which you can slide the balls to keep them secure.

Once you’ve incorporated some or all of the tips above, you should find that you’re able to easily transform your garage from a space that was once disorganized, cluttered, and hard to move in, to one that’s open, clean, organized, and inviting. The key is to maintain this organization by creating a specific place for every object and putting whatever you take from the garage back in its place.
