Lighting up each room of your house correctly can help optimize your daily tasks.

Read on to learn more about how you should set up lighting for the main rooms of your house.

Entry way

Imagine that you are entering a stranger’s house for the first time, and the hallway is dark, dim and unwelcoming. Creepy. You want the opposite of this: lighting that is bright, warm and welcoming. Mirrors can help by drawing more attention to this cheerful lighting.

Dining room

Here you will want lighting that is bright enough for everyone to see each other and their food. Overhead lights such as a pendant right above the table will ensure the right amount of lighting for dining. This lighting piece should be carefully chosen to match the decor style of the dining room.

Living room

There are many factors to consider here, including natural daylight, furniture placement and other common fixtures. The most important thing is to set up the lighting so that your living room remains easily adaptable and functional. Some nice decorative additions include hanging fixtures like chandeliers and pendant lamps. For ambient lighting, wall sconces can look great placed on a mirror, but by themselves won’t be enough to light the entire room.

Bathroom

The lighting in your bathroom should ideally be setup for a variety of different moods and should match whatever decorative style you have in place. Does your bathroom look showy? Halogen spots which produce the maximum amount of bright, white light would probably compliment it nicely. Or does your bathroom look more task oriented? Lighting attached to a mirror would be a good touch. A favorite of many is to have a bathroom dimmer, great for taking slow and relaxing baths…  Or you can have even more fun with lighting by lighting candles in the bathroom before you take a bath!

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most task oriented rooms of the house; therefore the lighting should be set up the same way. Check out pictures of pendant lights in a row and crystal lighting. One of these lighting options will definitely make your kitchen stand out in a good way. Also a dimmer switch in your kitchen or dining room will make any mealtime more romantic.

Bedroom

The room that requires the most variation in lighting for all of the things that you do in it. Some examples include reading, grooming, dressing, etc. For reading, you will love to have relaxing bedside lamps for the evenings and those dark winter mornings. For dressing and grooming, track lighting or a bright pendant are the best lighting options.
