Oftentimes space isn’t fully utilized
Notes:
- One of the reasons space disappears in a kitchen is because it isn’t put to proper use. You just get used to throwing spoons in a drawer, and stacking dishes that have different shapes together.
- Certainly that can work for a while, but things become cluttered quickly. In this writing we’ll explore a few key strategies to help you organize your kitchen.
- Cabinets specifically deserve much attention. These help organize kitchens, and sometimes you don’t have enough of them for proper management of dishes, tupperware, bowls, spoons, pans, and the like.
- We’ll cover space addition in a subsection. It’s one of many strategies that can be used to help you maximize the storage potential of your kitchen.

Establishing a place for everything
Notes:
- First, start with planning. There’s an old saying that goes something like, a place for all things, and all things in their proper place. Well, you need to know what goes where.
- Bowls can be stacked in one another, but not if they’re the wrong size. Stack them sequentially based on size. Put the big ones in the corners at the back of a cabinet, put smaller ones up front.
- The same kind of thinking needs to be brought to bear on silverware. Some implements are designed for cooking, some are designed for dining, some are designed for serving. Separate them out.
- Silverware is generally stored in drawers, so one tactic may be putting that which is meant for preparation or serving in specifically segmented areas of your cabinets.
- Separate out cabinet space, also. You can use wooden dividers, if you don’t have them you can put some cardboard in or install them yourself.
- They could be transparent plastic as well. Go with what works best for you in terms of convenience and effectiveness.

Looking into transparent cabinet doors
Notes:
- Speaking of transparencies, it can definitely be worth your while to find cabinet doors that are see-through. This keeps you from opening doors wide, shifting things around inside a cabinet, and making messes worse.
- Plenty of options exist out there. Installing a cabinet door generally isn’t too complicated.
- What you’ve got to do is determine the dimensions of the door, and how it’s attached to the cabinet. Most are attached by a hinge you can simply remove with a screwdriver.
- Then you unscrew the hinge from the door, attach it to the new door, and then reattach it to the cabinet. It can make you sweat a bit, and the whole kitchen may take time, but it’s an easy DIY fix.
- When you can see where everything is at, you’ll spend less time looking around for cooking implements, and you’ll be able to put dishes, food, napkins, or other kitchen items away easier.
- Some kitchens even go the “no doors” approach, leaving cabinets open. This can be a great choice, but if you’ve got cats or children, it may not be best.

Installing more cabinets
Notes:
- The simplest way to expand the storage space of the cabinetry in your kitchen is to simply install new cabinets. That sounds pretty straightforward, and for the most part it is; but it can be worthwhile for you to look into RTA options.
- RTA cabinets are “Ready To Assemble”. Essentially, you send a website the dimensions of the space, they send you a cabinet.
- There are a lot of options like this out there, you might want to explore some of the cabinets you can order online through the linked site. You can go the RTA route, but you don’t necessarily have to.
- Or, you might just uninstall the existing cabinets, and put together a whole new furniture paradigm in your kitchen.
- While kitchen remodel can be expensive, this is going to be a choice which brings a ton of value to your property; so it’s worth it on the back-end.
- Still, total remodel isn’t necessary to take out a few cabinets or add some more. If you’re really struggling with space even after you reorganize everything, you might need something more.

Getting the most storage space
Notes:
- Kitchens get dirty easily. Keeping them clean can be a full-time job. However, there are ways to maximize existing space without totally changing everything.
- And sometimes, you’ll want to add in new options anyway. It all depends on your particular situation. All these things being said, three primary courses of action can be advisable in terms of space maximization in your kitchen.
- First, design an organization scheme that you regularly follow. Secondly, look into either removing cabinet doors, or making them transparent. Last, consider the RTA angle, and whether you might just need a few more cabinets.
- Of course, you can always downsize as well, getting rid of the things you don’t use; but ideally, you should be able to manage everything without getting rid of what you own.
- Just remember that even if the job looks huge, you can get it done—you’ve merely got to take things one step at a time.
