With that in mind it’s important to put a little thought and planning into how the room is designed.
Aiming for a room that is calming can help any child but can be even more important for those who get stressed easily, may have a hard time focusing, can sometimes stutter, and just need that area that is quiet and relaxing. Here we will look at some simple steps that will allow you to create a calming bedroom for your child that they will want to spend time in.
Scrap the Bright Primary Colors
First things first, it’s time to wipe out the bright primary colors. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with adding color to your child’s room, primary colors don’t tend to be the most calming. The idea is to create a space that feels soothing and doesn’t provide all kinds of over-stimulation.
It may be a good idea to have kids get involved in picking out the color. You could even narrow it down to a few options if you don’t want to overload them with too many choices.
Invest in Comfy Cozy Bedding
Rather than look for that comforter and sheet set that matches the décor, try to find something that is soft and luxurious to the touch. Comfortable bedding can do wonders for your quality of sleep, and a well-rested child is one that is able to focus, socialize, and function better and they are just happier all-around.
Give Them a Quiet Nook in the Room
As you design the space and layout of the room you may also want to incorporate a quiet nook. This nook can be used for reading, studying, using their mobile app for educational and helpful tasks such as learning apps, apps meant for calming and focusing such as a stuttering app, and even apps that help them work on their reading.
In order for the nook to be functional it should feature a comfortable chair, task lighting such as a floor or table lamp, and a bookshelf and/or table next to the chair to store all their items.

Ensure There is Plenty of Light in the Room
Another element that you will want to include in the design is lighting. A room that is dark and dreary can affect a person’s mood and energy in a very negative way. You want to allow as much natural light as possible, plus overhead and task lighting. Remember when picking the actual light bulbs that too blue, white or yellow can actually cause anxiety. You want something that mimics sunlight.
