Most people have a garden shed. This ubiquitous garden storage building has been around for decades and is the first option if you need a place to store your lawn mower or bicycle. Look for sheds with double glazed windows and secure doors, as security can be an issue.
Log Cabin
Log cabins are highly versatile. At the lower end of the price range, a log cabin can be used as a summerhouse or children’s playhouse. If you are willing to spend more, log cabins are suitable for use as home offices or even guest bedrooms. The thing to watch out for is how thick the walls are. The thicker the walls, the greater the insulation, which is very important if you plan on using your log cabin in winter.
Children’s Play House
A children’s playhouse can be made from timber or plastic. Plastic playhouses are cheap and should last for a few years. Timber playhouses are more aesthetically pleasing, but you can paint them if you love bright colours. Tools need to be securely stored when not in use, but if you are a DIY freak, you may not have room for your collection indoors. One option is to buy a tool storage shed. A traditional shed will do, but it may not be secure enough. Instead, consider investing in a metal shed or constructing a bricks and mortar shed with a heavy-duty door and alarm system.

Gazebo
Gazebos are attractive and perfect for summer entertaining. Position your gazebo on a patio or decking area, or create a seating area in a cosy corner of the garden. If you plan to use your gazebo at night, set up a patio heater, string some solar lights around the frame, and it will feel very romantic once the sun goes down.
You don’t normally need zoning (US) or planning permission (UK) to erect smaller garden buildings, but do check with your local jurisdiction before you splash out on an expensive log cab.
