Packing glassware can be a time-consuming task. If it’s done wrong it can end in disaster. You don’t want to get to your new home and realize all your glass is broken.

How to Pack Glassware
When you’re moving glassware labeling a box as fragile won’t be enough to protect them. You have to take precautions and wrap them to keep from breaking them.
You also don’t want to just pack them any way you can fit them. With a little planning and a few of our tips you get can get everything moved in one piece.
Wrapping Glassware
You’re going to need something to wrap your glassware in. This can be bubble wrap, newspaper, foam, or even towels and linens. Anything that can prevent the dishes from hitting against each other.
For most glassware, you’ll want to wrap completely around its surface. You can secure it with a piece of tape of you’d like but shouldn’t be necessary.
For cups, you’ll want to put a piece of paper, or part of the towel you’re using inside to keep it from vibrating during your move. If you have identical cups you can wrap two stacked on top of each other together.
Bowls like cups will also need something between them to keep them from vibrating against each other. You can also wrap two bowls together, too.
How to Pack the Box
You’ll want to use a medium-sized box but be sure not to fill more than half full. You’ll want a layer of crumpled paper or towels in the bottom to help absorb shock. Pack towels and soft linens in the upper half of the box for added protection and to reduce weight.
For plates, pack them vertically in a row rather than stacking them on top of each other. This distributes the weight more evenly and helps keep them from breaking. It’s a good idea to add another layer of padding between rows as well.
Bowls can be stacked but should be placed upside down. This gives them more stability and keeps them from shifting in the box. Be sure to put some kind of padding between the stacks like towels or oven mitts.

Cups should be packed with the heaviest glasses on the bottom and the more fragile on top. Take extra care to put extra padding between glasses to reduce vibration.
Other Things to Think About
You can use commercial moving labels to mark your boxes. Use a marker to clearly write ”fragile”. This lets the person moving the box know to handle with care.
If you’re using a moving van or truck, be sure to load your dishes in the mom’s attic area. The mom’s attic has the smoothest and most stable ride giving your dishes extra protection.
