Four Tell-Tale Signs That It’s Time to Remodel and Renovate Your Home

Four Tell-Tale Signs That It’s Time to Remodel and Renovate Your Home
  • Opening Intro -

Remodeling projects come in all shapes and sizes.

From making your bathroom more modern to updating your appliances in the kitchen, some projects represent “quick fixes” while others feel like endless projects.

-------------------------------------

The fact remains: sometimes you can’t help but want to remodel, whether you’re preparing for a move or simply get a feeling that it’s time for your house to enjoy a fresh look. However, how do you know whether a project is worth the investment in time, money and energy?

The four tell-tale signs that it’s time to remodel your home can help you understand what projects you need to prioritize and how.

Bored by Your Décor

When it comes to remodeling, sometimes it’s best just to trust your gut.

Although that doesn’t mean going overboard and ripping your house apart, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with an “out with the old, in with the new” mentality if you’ve grown bored with the décor and furniture that have been staples of your home for years on end. As the seasons quite literally change, as does our taste for what’s around the house, right?

So, given that you are bored with your current décor, where do can you start?

Consider using elegant furniture as a centerpiece in the bedroom: building around one piece is a classic means of redecorating without breaking the bank. You can also replace the smaller, subtler aspects of your décor in your living space, such as accenting curtains, throws and rugs.

Wear and Tear

Wear and tear is more or less inevitable if you’ve been living the same space for years. While there are steps you can take to minimize common household repairs and replacements, consider the following as starting points if you’re looking to actually increase the value of your home over time:

  • Replacing your carpet with new tile or hardwood floor
  • Updating your kitchen cabinets and hardware such as faucets, as the kitchen is arguably the most important room to show off to prospective buyers
  • A fresh coat of paint can help revitalize walls that may have seen better days (especially true if you live in an area prone to water damage or have children)

Again: trust your gut. If you think something’s run down, chances are it’s time to replace it.

Feeling Empty?

Sometimes we may not be aware of the fact that some of our rooms our absolutely empty until we really stop and ponder our personal space.  Although nobody wants to needlessly pick up new pieces and knick knacks on a whim, ask yourself: do you have any empty rooms or space to fill? If the answer is “yes,” perhaps consider revamping a room or two into a home office or workout area to give yourself somewhere to relax and lounge accordingly.

Energy Bill on the Rise

Many home improvement projects can have a positive impact on your energy bill, granted you know what to replace. Sealing your home for drafts, replacing windows and investing in efficient lighting fixtures can not only make you feel cozier, but save you money in the long-run.

Although you shouldn’t invest in a huge home improvement project “just because,” consider the signs of why such projects are necessary. By bringing in some new pieces or making small adjustments, you can transform your space in no time flat.
