Autumn Renovations for the Winter Season

Autumn Renovations for the Winter Season
  • Opening Intro -

Summer has come to an end, and so too will all the greenness to follow.

Take a good look at your sun-filled green lawn and take a picture if you have to, because soon autumn will take its toll and turn the vibrant green into melancholy red and brown.

-------------------------------------

Of course, you should not simply stand and stare, you also have to take action and give the lawn the care it needs in preparation for the cold winter days and nights.

The lawn care you will provide is not too different than the one provided during the summer season, but it has its moments. Alongside that, you can add a thing or two to breathe in some fresh life in your lawn for winter. Let us browse through some suggestions and ideas.

Watering

After a dry summer season, you need to reinvigorate the lawn. If you did your job during the summer, then you should not have to water it more than say twice a week for about 20 minutes. In colder climate zones, you can stop the watering process by the end of September or October as the grass will go into dormancy. Luckily, that saves you from all the grass cutting, so at least that is one less thing to do.

Weeding

Weed control continues during autumn, yes. It is a dull and tedious job, but somebody has to do it, right? Especially if you have a garden of flowers or hot season vegetables, then you need to take action and weed out all the harmful plants. And you should definitely fertilize your garden as well if you are planning on planting cold season crops. A fertile soil is always needed in any type of garden, so sleeve up and do the work if you want good results.

Landscaping

Think about all the different things you can do with your garden to prepare it for the winter season, or just to add to it to give yourself something new to look at. If you are an avid expert gardener and want to try out new techniques during the winter, then a greenhouse is what you want. Build yourself one to make an area where you will be able to continue planting and gardening even during the season. Just do not forget, that such an endeavour will probably mean investing in lightening and heating systems for some of the plants. And garden maintenance during the winter is probably not the best idea unless you like frostbite.

On the other hand, you can build yourself a shed to have a peaceful place to work since winter is when all the family will be shut inside by the cold and you know how noisy kids can be in close quarters. Make yourself a shed and install some heating and have your calm workplace at any season.
The options you have when wondering about what to add to the garden can be limited only by your imagination. Just think about what will benefit yourself and your garden and work, work, work.
