DIY Accessory Ideas to Brighten Up Your Kitchen
  • Opening Intro -

It doesn’t take a complete remodel to give your kitchen a new lease of life.

Here are just a few fun projects to inject some colour and style into your home – without having to spend a fortune!

Stencils and Wall Art

You can find these kits both online and in home-furnishing stores. They’re a great way to add a little interest to surfaces without having to commit to an all-out paint job!

You can also co-ordinate little bits and pieces to fit in with a design you’ve printed somewhere in the room. You can use the stencils on tablemats, plates, even the floor if it takes your fancy. Decals are a great, mess-free way to jazz up a wall, especially if the rest of your kitchen design is relatively minimal.

Decorate Your Own Cups

You can get these kits from craft shops everywhere, allowing you to customise your existing crockery and add a personal touch to your home wares. Surprise your other half by serving their morning coffee in a newly personalised mug, or create a fun group of items especially for your little ones!

You can also get a similar effect if you use Sharpie pens to customise your dinnerware before baking the items at 350°F for thirty minutes.

Glass Painting

This is a fantastic way to brighten up a room, especially if you paint directly onto your windows. The colours will stain any light entering the room, resulting in a kaleidoscope glow of rainbow tones!

If you’re not confident enough to get slap happy with your windows you can practise on your glassware and create your own bespoke wine glasses and picture frames.

A great idea for a quick decorative touch is to paint directly onto a few mismatched mason jars and use them to store little bits and pieces. You could even use them to hold your flower arrangements!

Kitchen Clock

DIY clock templates are a fantastic personal touch to your kitchen. You can use numbers or pictures in any order you wish to tell the time in an unconventional and eye-catching way. This is a great way to coordinate your clock with your surroundings.

If there’s a colour scheme or a theme you want to adhere to, you can create something completely versatile which is a great aesthetic fit. Clocks with cutlery for hands are always popular in kitchens, or if for example your décor scheme is nautical why not add clock hands to an old seaside painting in a frame?

Fabric Painting

Fabric paints are really easy to get hold of and can make a real design statement when utilised effectively. You can use them to customise your kitchen apron, bring a new lease of life to dull and tired blinds, or brighten up old tablecloths!

It’s also a really great way to create unique fabric placemat designs and wall hangings from scratch.
