  • We all love our homes for the reasons that make them special, whether it's a prominent family heirloom, vibrant furniture, or an exciting layout.

Our abodes are an extension of ourselves.

If you're interested in bringing your house to the next level in terms of uniqueness, check out these tips for how to add more character into your home.

Spruce up your front door

Notes:

  • How About Changing the Color:

Your front door is your home’s entrance and, as such, should be a reflection of the house’s character. The neat thing about doors is that they have tons of little details you can customize to make them unique.

  • For starters, painting your entryway with a striking color adds pop to your curb appeal. If your home features darker woods, a black door accomplishes the same appeal. Minimalist or eccentric designs both succeed at adding character.
  • Replace Hardware:

The right door handle can also change your house’s aesthetic. For a classic look, try installing vintage hardware or a crystal knob. Make sure it accents the door’s color while also standing out to draw attention.

  • Bring In Light:

Lastly, installing windows in your door can allow more light into your home and give you plenty of new opportunities for personalization. Modern houses feature almost entirely glass doors, but you can make it cozier and more private by adding a vibrant curtain behind the glass.

  • Another fantastic idea to enhance your front door is adding a storm window. It’s an easy install; and many storm windows come with beautiful etched glass for a decorative design.
  • You can change out the window with a screen insert for the summer to allow fresh air to come into the house
    • Installing Storm Door:

Storm doors have become very fashionable with decorative glass and design. And they are nice to have to let the sun shine in without welcoming the critters.

Liven up your walls

Notes:

  • Let’s Start With Paint:

Painting your walls is the perfect opportunity to add spunk to your home. A plain paint job across all of your walls is monotonous and a bore to look at day after day. Try complementing the decor of different rooms with exciting colors.

  • How About Wallpaper:

High-quality wallpapers take the stress out of decorating your walls and come in fantastical patterns and designs. Mixing giant patterns with subtle ones gives any room a warm and welcoming feeling.

  • Can’t decide between painting our using wallpaper. This might help – why not use peel n’ stick wallpaper. You layer it on one wall to take a look; and if you don’t like it, you simply peel it off.
  • As for paint, you can purchase paint samples to that will be enough for one wall. Again, if you don’t like, you can repaint it over. If you do, then you can paint part of the wall and then use wallpaper to compliment the color.
    • Using Wallpaper:

With everyone being stuck indoors for the later part of 2020 and the foreseeable future in 2021, many people are starting to go a little stir crazy. Being trapped inside has created more than a bit of a spike in home renovation projects.

    • So before you begin your next home project, here is why it should include peel and stick wallpaper.
    • view post: Why Peel and Stick Wallpaper Should Be Your New Favorite Thing
    • Paint Benefits:

Paint can do a lot to revamp the style and cleanliness of your home and make it more valuable. With such a wide array of colors, finishes, and protective qualities, it’s no wonder paint can have a massive impact on the best areas of your house.

Wood, wood, and more wood

Notes:

  • Our modern-day skylines and neighborhoods are full of steel and concrete buildings that, while elegant, lack much diversity. Meanwhile, implementing wood throughout a home brings life and character back within its walls.
  • If you genuinely want to make your home unique, look to add reclaimed wood furniture, which is both eco-friendly and striking to the eyes. Overall, abstract wooden furniture that isn’t “cookie-cutter” will give your interior a one-of-a-kind aesthetic.
  • You can find old wood furniture at discount warehouses, consignment shops, online postings, and along roadsides. Question is how to update old furniture to make it look great in your home:
    • Old Furniture:

It’s unfortunate, but it’s the inevitable life cycle of furniture: over time, your chairs, tables, and other pieces will start to wear down and look outdated. Or you may come across some old furniture being handed down from family estates.

    • When yours or others furniture is reaching the end of its life, you have two options.

Trim your windows

Notes:

  • Windows allow light to fill our homes, and they come in so many distinct shapes and sizes. Reds, blacks, blues, and pinks are different colors that work well with wood or brick homes. Many designers forget to accentuate their windows, a missed opportunity to provide additional character.
  • The simplest way to make your windows pop is by putting a solid trim around them. The “boxed-in” look also ups your home’s cozy factor.
  • Another way to spruce up your windows is adding window boxes. It won’t give you the exact trim noted above, but it will give you a bottom boundary that can be filled with decorative, colorful flowers:
    • Adding Color:

Window boxes can bring a fresh and inviting look to your home. However, without the proper installation, you could end up with pulled-out bolts, crumbling exteriors or ruined window boxes.

    • When yours or others furniture is reaching the end of its life, you have two options.
    • view post: How To Install Window Boxes on Different Exteriors
  • FINAL REMARKS

Remember that, when deciding how to add more character into your home, true uniqueness comes from your preferences—there is no “wrong” way to style a house! Think bold and creatively when pursuing the ultimate self-reflecting abode.
