How to Make Moving to a New Apartment Easier
  • Opening Intro -

So you've finally found the house you want to rent, completed the applications, and have the house keys in your hand.

    Now what?

-------------------------------------

Well, one thing’s for sure:  you can finally relax a bit and kiss property inspections goodbye. But before you get too relaxed, remember that you still have to deal with the hardest part which is packing and moving in. It’s stressful and exhausting, yes, but having a clear mind and knowing exactly the things you need to do will help.

Sweep from one room to another

It’s advisable to start packing weeks ahead of your moving date so you won’t have to cram and stress when packing away your stuff. If you’ve started early enough, you can start with one room by storing things that you won’t use anytime soon. This should include décor items, books, and shelving.

With two weeks remaining to your moving date, pack away your kitchen and bedroom stuff. Remember to leave the perishable items in the fridge and at least enough clothing so you won’t have to rummage through your boxes a few days before leaving.

Keep it organized

Make sure that you pack your things in an organized manner. Don’t forget to label boxes and put similar stuff together so it will be easy to unpack, and you’ll know exactly where to get stuff from and where to place it.

Wrapping fragile items can be tricky, so keep them well protected by investing in bubble wrap or by using old linens to cushion your glassware or anything that might break.

Label disassembled items

Most renters opt for DIY furniture because it’s convenient and easy to move from one house to another. You can always choose to transport it as is or disassemble it if needed. But when choosing the latter, mark the parts and where they should go so you can put them back together hassle-free.

Book a mover

If you have extra money to spend on moving, you may want to consider hiring movers to load, transfer, and unload all your stuff to your new place. But if you reckon you can handle it yourself and you have friends willing to help, this will do as well, as long as the job gets done.

Look for utility providers

This is one of the steps that you need to do before the moving-in date. Lock in your service providers for gas, water and electricity, and let them know the date you want the bills to start running. An Internet service provider is another thing, so make sure you hunt for a reliable one so you can get the modem setup on your move-in date.

Moving to a new place can be overwhelming and dreadful if you don’t know when and how to start. Just remember to start early and list your to-dos so that there will be no cramming or stress when the movers arrive.

other valuable tips:

Agents, like Property Management by Regional, will give you enough time to prepare your stuff before moving in. You should use this to your advantage by being ready and organized.
