6 Interior Design Tips to Make Your Living Room Pop
  • Opening Intro -

Whether you've just moved into your home or want to give your living space a much-needed makeover, there are several design tips you can incorporate into your living room to make the space more visually appealing.

Whether you’re a fan of bright colors or are drawn to signature pieces, these suggestions will help you create the perfect living room space for you and your family.

An Accent Wall

Choose one wall in your living and accent it with a bright color or eye-catching artwork. If you concentrate on one prominent wall in the space, you’ll cut down on clutter while drawing the eye to one area of the room. The color you choose for the wall can also bring the rest of the items in the room together. For instance, if you have black and white furniture, a red accent wall adds the perfect pop of color to keep the space from looking too stark.

Mixed Patterns

A number of patterns in your living room can look chic and on-trend. Just make sure the patterns are in the same color scheme so that the space looks polished yet eclectic. For instance, if you’ve decorated your living room in shades of blue and gray, throw pillows in blue paisley will go well with curtains that features gray and blue stripes.

Signature Furniture Pieces

One or two signature pieces in the living room will make the area much more appealing. For instance, if you’ve chosen to decorate your living room in tan or rich brown colors, a bronze chaise or an antique clock in cherry wood will fit in with the decorative theme of the room but stand out enough to catch the eyes of your guests.

Monochromatic Shades

If you want to decorate your living room in a bold color, going the monochromatic route when it comes to choosing furniture and pieces can make the hue less overwhelming. For instance, if you want to incorporate yellow into your living room, choose butter yellow curtains, colored wool rugs from Rugs Centre that compliment the curtains. Pastel yellow pillows are a good idea as well, they tend to indicate that yellow is the main color of the room without straining the eye.

Avoid Clashing

Make sure that your shades and colors don’t clash with each other. Colors or shades that are similar, but not the same that are placed right next to each other causes clashing. You want colors that compliment each other. Oranges go well with yellows, reds, or more neutral colors like brown or gray. Cooler colors like blue and green compliment each other as well. This is not to say that you cannot put a blue next to a yellow per say, but this must be done carefully using the right amount of each color along with the right shade of each color as well.

Adding one or even a few of these design elements to your living room is sure to make the area one-of-a-kind. These features can also provide you with more space, depending on how you arrange your furniture, so you’ll feel more comfortable welcoming family and friends.
