How to Use Plants In Interior Design

If you do not have ample light space, you can always resort to artificial plants that are much easier to care for, and often, resemble the real thing. To know how to integrate plants into the interior design of your home, consider the five tips that are provided to you below.

1. Group Plants Together

If you have a corner in your room or a shelf that needs some type of decor, consider grouping some plants together in that space. Make sure you consider the height of the plants and mix them up so that they do not overshadow one another.

Make sure that you look at the shapes of the leaves and the colors to ensure that they are complementary to one another and will not clash.

The best way to group plants together too is to only put up an odd number so that you do not have a confusing layout and one that is unable to be stacked.

2. Use Multi-Color Leaves

When you think of decorating with plants, you may initially only consider greenery or those with flowers for a pop of color. For something different, go with plants with multicolored leaves, which are also called variegated leaves.

Some plants, such as the Croton, have leaves that are colors ranging from bright pink to cream if you want an interesting contrast in your home.

Others, however, like the Wandering Jew, have more than one color on their leaves such as the combination of purple and green for an interesting feature.

3. Put in Trees

If you have space, put some trees up in the corners of your room, especially if you have high ceilings that can support tall plants. If you do not have room for a tree, look for a cane plant or an island pine, for instance, that has interesting leaves.

Many of these plants do require indirect light, however, so they will grow to their fullest and tallest to really bring features to life. If you want to, you can even use two of these tall plants on either side of an archway or fireplace to add symmetry to your home.

4. Enhance the Details with Compact Plants

If you truly are a plant lover, enhance small details in your home by putting in compact-sized plants where they will fit. Hang some baskets, for instance, near the windows of your home over a desk or in your room.

Choose an ivy of some form or a fern that will hang down and be easily noticeable by your guests too. For your mantles, shelves, and centerpieces on your table, put in some cacti or succulents that will draw the eye and will complement any color scheme in your home.

5. Consider Artificial Plants

If you love plants, but you cannot seem to keep them alive, put some artificial plants in your home. If you choose one that is of high quality, you will likely be unable to tell a difference.

Put artificial orchids, for instance, in small vases in your home on shelves and window sills, putting them near the sun so they look real. You can even find artificial trees to put in corners of your rooms and compact plants that will work well as centerpieces throughout.
