Tips to Make Your Home Look Better

Do you ever have those times when you look at your home and think: I wish this looked better?

If so, you are definitely not alone.

For the many reason of updating and fixing up your home, the biggest one would probably be people just wanting to upgrade the look of their home. Taking out a home loan or mortgage to update and renovate your home is not an option for many, below are some relatively inexpensive ways to improve the look of your home and make it feel more sophisticated.

Use Fresh Flowers to Decorate

The flower bouquets that you choose to get don’t have to break your wallet, but having a fresh bouquet of flowers is a great way to make your home look, smell, and feel better. A simple and cheap bouquet from the grocery store can be all you need to add a bit of luxury to your home, especially if you had it in a nice, simple vase in a neutral color. Another idea is that you can get a big bouquet of flowers and split them up into a number of smaller arrangements and put them in different rooms of your home. A good thing to remember is to get flower colors that complement the colors in your home.

Repaint

A great way to improve the look of your house is to change up the colors to make them match more. Putting a couple coats of paint on your walls in a neutral color (beige, cream, white, gray, etc.), if they are not painted those colors already, will help make the colors of your accessories pop and look more sophisticated rather than a colorful, jumbled mess. Picking specific items in each room that will match in color and design, such as the pillows and the curtains or the rug and the curtains, will help the color have an even bigger impact due to the fact that there isn’t the color everywhere, overwhelming the neutrals. Finding vintage lamps and accessories, artwork, vases for flowers, and throws on the couch are all great ways to decorate and beautify your living spaces.

Redo the Floors

The floors in a house are one of the most important aspects of a good looking home; they can either make or break a look you are trying to go for. Even though fully replacing floors is very expensive and not many people have the time or the money to replace them, there are cheaper ways to improve the look of your old flooring. If you have vinyl or linoleum flooring, there are a few different ways that you can change it up and can be as simple as painting it. If you have wood flooring, an easy way to make the room look better is to add a light colored carpet over most of it, which can also make the room look bigger. There are also a few ways that you can refinish your own wood floors to make them look better and get rid of scratches.

Use Textures

Although it may seem like a good idea to use accents in all the same textures, it actually can make a space look flat and boring. A better idea is to swap out the same textured pillows that you have with 2 or 3 different textures, as well as possibly switching out your curtains to a new texture. Having all of these different textures yet cohesive accessories, either by color or design, will make your space look more visually interesting and luxurious. This will especially have more impact if your major furniture and walls are in neutrals as stated above, making the bold colors and textures of the accessories pop and take center stage.
