Where Those Small Details Make a Big Impact

Where Those Small Details Make a Big Impact

-------------------------------------

Not everyone has a lot of money in their home budgets to take on big home improvements. Sometimes though the unexpected happens and we do need to tap into that emergency home repair fund. But in most cases we are all looking for ways to improve our home at a low cost. And most of us like to take on home projects ourselves. We take pride in our homes and want the house to look the best it can be. Here are a few small projects that make a relatively big impact.

Crown Molding

When we first moved into our house, we got in with the basic model and could not afford any extras. Of course when we took a look at the other homes, we noticed immediately how stunning crown molding made a room look. We decided to take on this project ourselves and began with putting crown molding in our family room. It did not take too much time, but precision was key. There are many designs and you even have the option of painting the molding the color of your choice. We opted for a simple design and kept the molding white as we wanted it to further accent the pain already on our walls. Our family room is a decent size and it took us about a weekend to complete the project. It was relatively low cost and did make such a difference in the room. Now, we have one of those model rooms we so enjoyed looking at.

Cabinet Hardware

Again, just to get into our new home, we did not opt for too many upgrades. Well, I was surprised to see when we moved in that there was not any cabinet hardware on any of the kitchen or bathroom cabinetry. The cabinets basically looked naked and unfinished. So, we headed out to out local home store and wanted to see what options there were for cabinet hardware and were we surprised to find out how options are really out there! There were quite elaborate pieces of hardware and then there were the simpler designs. The hardware came in an assortment of finishes and there were plenty of options such as: pulls, knobs, handles, etc. it was quite difficult to make a decision. So we just went with the feel of our kitchen and bathrooms, which was a traditional vibe and selected the finishes that would accent the rest of the kitchen and bathrooms. We were also surprised to see how much the hardware actually adds up to be. Compare prices and shop around before purchasing an entire room’s worth of hardware. This was also a weekend project we took on, one room at a time though. Be sure to measure carefully as you want each piece of hardware to be placed exactly where the others are placed.

As you can see, we just took on two small projects, but the result impacted each of our rooms immensely.
