One room that is becoming popular in new home construction and remodeling is the “mudroom”. This is an adjacent room to the kitchen where “mud” and other outside fun is controlled before entering the home.
Elaborate mudrooms have shelves or bins to store shoes, hand coats, remove dirty clothes, and in some design, a mini bathroom and shower. It becomes the buffer room between the outside and the interior home where kids (and spouses) can clean up before entering the home.
Laundry Room Too?
The mudroom can also function as the laundry and utility room. A laundry area where dirty clothes can be removed and then washed. A utility area where cleaning materials and appliances can be safely secured.
