Take Advantage of Solar Technology to Make Your Home Energy Efficient
The value of solar technology to generate power for your home energy needs is great. Solar power diversifies the energy supply and reduces dependence on imported fuels, while improving air quality and limiting greenhouse gas emissions.
Solar Heating Systems Can Provide Heat for Your Water, Indoor Space, and Pool
Solar heat can be used for solar water heating, solar space heating in buildings, and solar pool heaters.
Solar water heaters and solar space heaters are constructed of solar collectors, and all systems have some kind of storage. The systems collect the sun's energy to heat air or a fluid. The air or fluid then transfers solar heat directly to a building, water, or pool.
Save on Energy Costs with Solar Heating for Your Home
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 states that tax credits are available for qualified solar water heating and photovoltaic systems. The credits are available for systems placed in service from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2008 and provides for 30 percent of the cost of the system up to $2,000. Installed costs of solar heating systems vary anywhere from $1,500 to more than $3,000. Some home builders are beginning to list solar water heaters as an option for their homes. In some cases, you may be offered a lower interest rate from your lender because of the potential to save a significant amount of money on future energy bills. Although a solar water heating system still costs more than a conventional system, many states and utilities offer rebates that can reduce your total costs considerably.
