Cheap Kitchen Updates

home remodeling articles and tips

When it comes to your kitchen, there are tons of things that you can do in order to update your kitchen. However, you do not want to have to spend your entire savings to make these updates, which is where finding those inexpensive updates are vital. So what exactly can you do to update your kitchen?

Coat of Paint

First off, a coat of paint can do wonders to a kitchen that is somewhat drab. Most people purchase houses that just have a basic white coat of paint on the walls. If you want something that is more unique consider painting the entire wall, or stenciling a design on the walls. You could also utilize a number of painting techniques such as sponge painting or other faux finish type work on your walls.

For those that want to make some changes to their furniture in the kitchen, you do not have to buy all new, which could go into hundreds of dollars. Instead, consider making a few do it yourself changes.

For example, sanding down a table and varnishing it with a different color could add a whole new element to the room. All this will involve is a little time on your behalf, a sander and some varnish. You can also go as far as to change your cabinets, by adding a layer of paint or sanding them down and varnishing with a different color. This will take time, but is fairly inexpensive since all you need to purchase is a few supplies at your local home improvement store and maybe a trip to your library for a good book on the subject.

Spacing Issues

For those that are working with a space issue, then you have a variety of options in order to update your kitchen. For example, adding a hanging pot and pan holder above your stove or above the island in your kitchen is a great way to increase the space that you are working with. You could also add a roll away cabinet into the room and make even more room. Also, consider adding more shelves into the existing cabinets that you already have.

How About Lighting

Yet another way to update your kitchen is to change the light fixtures. Changing these can give a whole new feeling to the room and is fairly inexpensive. Not to mention that it is fairly easy to do as most fixtures include instructions on just how to complete the process.

Finally, door mats are excellent for putting on places where you are going to be standing for long periods of time.  Places like the area where you are doing most of your cooking or where you stand in front of the sink will help make you more comfortable when standing in one spot for long periods of time.

All in all, in order to make some inexpensive updates to your kitchen, you just need to have a bit of imagination. In order to make your kitchen appear differently, you do not have to have hundreds of dollars, but it will require some time on your behalf.
