Indoor Humidity Control – Protect Yourself and Belongings

Anyone who suffers from sore throat, dry skin, itchy eyes, or respiratory problems should use an indoor humidifier.  Additionally, environments with expensive or high quality wood to include grand pianos and artwork should have indoor humidification.  As you will discover in this article, humidity can be highly beneficial in a number of ways, some of which people never consider.

During the colder winter months, studies show that as much as 30% humidity needs to be maintained in an indoor environment.  You see, in colder temperatures, the air holds less moisture than you would see in warmer temperatures.  However, in the summertime, humidity levels should be about 10% since less is needed at that time of year.

When you shop around for a humidifier, you want something that can accommodate the room’s size.  For this, you could purchase a variety of options.  In fact, one option is to use an indoor fountain, such as a tabletop fountain.  The water and flow of the water produced by an indoor fountain is ideal, producing the right amount of humidity while also creating a gorgeous visual that actually becomes a focal point of the room.  When making your choice, you will need to look at a number of factors.

  • Outlet – Most humidifiers run off electricity so you want to make sure you have an open electrical outlet where the humidifier needs to be placed.  If you choose a fountain, your options are better in that some of these styles run off battery.

  • Energy Savings – Many of the humidifier options on the market today are made to run but also to use little electricity.  Obviously, energy savings is an important decision factor, especially as more and more people are trying to cut costs.

  • Water Choices – It is recommended to use distilled water in a humidifier or indoor fountain.  In most cases tap water contains a degree of mineral within the water and will leave calcium or lime deposits on the unit and potential clog or decrease the life of the unit.  Distilled water is pure and will not leave such unsightly and potential harmful deposits.

  • Humidistat – You should also choose a humidifier that has some type of digital or dial control.  With this, you can set the percentage that you want the room to reach and once there, the humidifier would shut off automatically.

A room that has a low humidity level has a much higher evaporation rate compared to a room with high humidity.  By using a humidifier or indoor water fountain, you can also control dust mite reproduction, as well as dangerous mold.  With mold, you actually have spores that are floating around in the air, making the environment harmful, especially for children and the elderly.  However, by keeping humidity levels within a healthy range, you eliminate risks.

The bottom line is that by maintaining proper humidity, furniture is preserved and people feel better.  When levels of humidity are not within normal range, various things happen.  Again, wood is hard hit, often drying out and cracking.  For people who own expensive pieces or rare art, it is critical that the environment have the right level of humidity.  Otherwise, damage would occur, many times irreversible

The good news is that any indoor environment can benefit from a humidifier or indoor water fountain.  Although humidity is most important for homes with expensive furniture or artwork, or family members with health problems, it is beneficial for everyone.  Even in businesses, employees are provided with a healthier place to work.  This means you would see fewer cases of sickness, which improves attendance and performance.

With so many different types of humidifiers on the market, you will surely find the one that works best for your need.  For a home, you can choose from smaller floor or tabletop models whereas for a business, an in-duct system might work best.  Additionally, indoor fountains come in a huge array of options so if you want to create a healthy humidity level using a fountain, you will have hundreds of choices that fit with any decor.  Improving the indoor environment is necessary but also easy.
